Diversity
On the day of Pentecost the diversity of the people of God was illuminated.
After the gift of the Spirit is given, St. Peter remembers the prophet Joel:
“In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.”
The Kingdom of God is built from the diversity of its people. The mortar is the Holy Spirit.
The Font
The beginning of our shared life in Christ is baptism. “You are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own forever.”
We place our baptismal font at the entrance of our place of worship to mark the threshold between the world and the holy place. In the waters of baptism we have died to the old life, and are raised anew in Jesus.
Ringing the Bells at worship sets the tone for our gathering, calling us to quiet our hearts and exciting us toward the mission in the world.
